He's got the power

Ryan fits the batteries into Alex's christmas present from aunty Lynda & uncle Michael. As you can see from his shirt, Alex has been at the chocolate coins again!

Smith Christmas Dinner

The Smiths came over for our annual christmas dinner yesterday, but unfortunately Emma and new addition Harrison weren't able to attend. Alex had a well-timed nap during dinner, which was fantastic - thank you Helen. More photos here.

Decorating the Tree

This year we gave up on real christmas trees and bought a fake. We chose an 'upside down tree' for reasons of space. People who think they are this year's trend are 14 years behind the times!

Return of the Mac

Well the "genius" at Lakeside's Apple store only took 3 days to replace the main logic board and power supply on my imac. Unfortunately he replaced it with another faulty board, as I discovered when I got home and found my computer no longer had audio capabilities. I returned it the next day and this time they took only 24 hours to replace the faulty part. After making my feelings clear on the matter I was offered a £15 gift voucher. I'm just relieved to have my beloved computer back again.

Bad Caps strike again

Our 'Revision A' G5 imac is playing up again. It has started turning itself off at random. The problem lies with those
cylindrical things with bulging and leaking 'x' marked tops.

Two years ago we had to have the midplane [motherboard] replaced after a similar fault - as you can see here:

I am annoyed. The prospect of having to do without the computer for several days is frightening!
I suppose I should be grateful that it happened now though, as the extended warranty expires in 3 weeks.
Other people are experiencing the same problem.
The lesson I have learned is
NEVER BUY A 'REVISION A' APPLE COMPUTER!
